Mayor Emanuel Endorses Christian Mitchell
CHICAGO, March 1, 2012 – Christian Mitchell, Democratic candidate for State Representative of the 26th district, was endorsed today by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
“Christian Mitchell has the right values, strength, and character to get the job done in Springfield. We can trust him to find the right solutions to the issues facing Chicago and Illinois,” said Mayor Emanuel.
“I am endorsing Christian because he is dedicated to fiscal responsibility, giving our kids the education they deserve, and making critical investments to keep our city and state competitive. We need more leaders like him,” he concluded.
Since he was elected in 2011, Mayor Emanuel has worked with elected officials in Springfield and at Cook County to reform education, eliminate wasteful spending and increase transparency, among other accomplishments.
“I am honored to accept Mayor Emanuel’s endorsement,” said Mr. Mitchell. “I admire the approach he has taken to fix our city’s problems, to balance the budget, improve schools and reduce crime. It’s the same kind of inclusive approach I’ve used throughout my career – the kind of approach I want to take to Springfield. I look forward to working with Mayor Emanuel, residents and community leaders to find solutions for the people of the 26th district and the state of Illinois.”
In addition to Mayor Emanuel, Mr. Mitchell’s candidacy has garnered endorsements from Governor Pat Quinn, Secretary of State Jesse White, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Congressman Bobby Rush, Aldermen Will Burns, Pat Dowell, Michelle Harris and Leslie Hairston, State Senator Emil Jones III, State Representatives Kimberly du Buclet, Marlow Colvin, Arthur Turner, Elaine Nekritz, Michael Zalewski, Derrick Smith and Greg Harris, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, IVI-IPO, Personal PAC, the Brady Campaign, Equality Illinois, the Sierra Club, Unite Here Local 1, SEIU Illinois State Council, UFCW Local 881, and many other elected officials, civic groups and labor organizations.
